Many of us strive to achieve a toned look in our legs, including our thighs. However, sometimes, even after eating a nutritional diet and getting regular exercise, this effect isn’t achievable. This is typically due to skin in the area losing elasticity, making it appear loose. You shouldn’t change your body because of societal standards or expectations. However, if you find that your emotional well-being is being lowered by looseness around the thighs, a thigh lift, or a thighplasty, may be a great option for you.
What Is Thighplasty?
Many people choose to get this procedure after losing a drastic amount of weight. After significant weight loss, the skin can take on a sagging appearance due to lost elasticity. Excess fat around this area can also cause chafing, leading to physical discomfort. A thighplasty is a procedure that removes excess skin and fat and tightens the underlying tissue, contouring the thigh. A thighplasty is a common procedure that can significantly tone the appearance of the thigh.

Who Is a Candidate for Thighplasty?
Not everyone is a candidate for this procedure. If you are experiencing emotional or physical discomfort due to sagging of the skin on the thigh, this may be an option for you. In addition, ideal candidates should not have significant unmanaged medical conditions that could complicate the procedure and healing process. They should not smoke leading up to the procedure, and their weight should also be relatively stable leading up to the procedure. Ideal candidates should also have realistic expectations and be committed to living a healthy lifestyle, including a nutritious diet and regular movement of the body.

What to Expect During a Thighplasty Procedure
During your consultation, a member of our team will go over your medical history with you, as well as any medications you’re taking. You may need to stop taking certain medications temporarily to avoid complications. As with any surgery, there are risks that will be thoroughly discussed with you. Before the procedure, arrange for someone to drive you there and back home and to stay with you for at least the first night of at-home recovery.
General anesthesia will be given so you’re asleep during the procedure. An incision will be made in the groin area–the size and location of the incision varies depending upon the procedure. Excess fat will be removed. In some cases, liposuction may be used to suction out fat during this procedure. Excess skin may be trimmed off, as well. After the removal, tissue will be repositioned and muscles in the area will be tightened using sutures, and the incisions will be closed, as well.
Thighplasty Aftercare
After your procedure, you’ll need to wear bandages, and tubes may be situated under the skin to drain fluid. You’ll need to wear a compression garment for several weeks to provide support. After you wake up from the anesthesia, you will either be able to return home, or may need to remain at the facility for the night. A member of our team will discuss pain management and incision care with you for you to utilize at home, and you may be given an antibiotic to prevent infection. You should expect to limit movement and excessive contact to the area for a matter of weeks to make sure your healing journey is as smooth as possible. Swelling and soreness are common for several days after the procedure. Patients usually see full results after six months, when the swelling has gone down completely.
