Experts in Plastic Surgery

Our nose is one of the most prominent features of our face, and many people feel self conscious about their nose appearance. Every nose is different, and there’s no ideal shape or size. However, it’s important to feel confident in your own skin. If you’ve been experiencing consistent discomfort due to the appearance of your nose, you might consider a rhinoplasty procedure to boost your confidence and help you feel comfortable in your body.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job,” is a procedure that can alter nose proportions and shape to produce a desired look. This procedure is also sometimes necessary in patients with breathing problems that stem from structural issues in the nose. This procedure can alter the size of the nose, width, profile, asymmetry, and specific features of the nose, including the appearance of the tip. Our team works with you to determine your unique goals and examine your anatomy to decide upon nose alterations that suit your unique face.

Who Is a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Not everyone is an ideal fit for a rhinoplasty, as is the case with any procedure or treatment. During our consultation, we’ll discuss your medical history with you to make sure that you don’t have any conditions that could lead to complications during or after surgery. You should be prepared to stop smoking, as this can lead to issues during surgery. Ideal candidates have already gone through their natural facial growth and should maintain general good health leading up to this procedure. You should also be ready to talk about your expectations with us. We want to hear about the results you’re looking for to make sure that this is the right procedure for you.

What to Expect During a Rhinoplasty Procedure

Our team will let you know if you need to stop taking any specific medications leading up to the procedure, including anti-inflammatory medication like aspirin. Risks will be discussed thoroughly with you beforehand. Make sure someone is able to drive you to and from the surgery and that you have someone to help you and monitor you during your first night back home. You want to make sure that you’re able to rest and to be as comfortable as possible, so have someone there to help if you can.

Usually, general anesthesia will be given for a rhinoplasty, meaning you’ll be asleep for the duration of the surgery. Incisions will either be made inside of the nose–a closed procedure–or across the tissue between the nostrils–an open procedure. The skin of the nose will be raised, giving us access to the tissue underneath. Larger noses might require the removal of bone and/or cartilage. In other cases, cartilage from elsewhere in the body, like the septum, can be used for grafts. The exact process depends upon your anatomy and your desired outcome. Once the nose structure is altered or repositioned, skin will be replaced and the incisions will be shut. This procedure may take several hours.

Rhinoplasty Aftercare

You can usually return home the same day. Packing or a splint might be situated inside the nose, as well as a splint or gauze around the nose. This provides structure and support to your healing nose. A large amount of the swelling will go down within a few weeks, but full results may take up to one year to be completely visible. Swelling can reoccur during the first year and is sometimes worse in the morning for patients. Our team will discuss specific plans with you, including how to care for the area and how to manage pain. Plan to take it easy and avoid unnecessary contact with your nose for several weeks while you heal.
