Eyelid Lift

Experts in Plastic Surgery

As they say, eyes are the windows to the soul. This is why, for many of us, our eyes are one of the first places we focus on when looking in the mirror. Many people are self-conscious about sagging of the eyelid area. If this has been a persistent issue for you, an eyelid lift is a procedure that offers a more lifted appearance, making sure your eyes are showcased.

What Is an Eyelid Lift?

An eyelid lift, or a blepharoplasty, takes away extra skin from around the eyelids. This can help address sagging eyelids, drooping eyebrows, and under-eye bags. Many of these conditions occur naturally with age. It can also help patients who are struggling to see peripherally due to sagging of the skin around the eyes. This procedure gives patients a more youthful, brighter appearance.

Who Is a Candidate for an Eyelid Lift?

Patients with severe conditions of the eye or other serious medical conditions might not be candidates for this procedure. During your consultation, we’ll go over your medical history with you to make sure that you don’t have any conditions that could cause complications. Ideal candidates are relatively healthy and dedicated to leading a lifestyle that’s good for the body. Ideal candidates should also have an outlook that’s positive and be prepared to talk to us about their goals and desires, as well as what they’re expecting from this surgery.

What to Expect During an Eyelid Lift Procedure

Any risks of this surgery will be discussed with you thoroughly so you can make an informed decision. However, our team regularly performs this procedure and is dedicated to providing safe, effective care. You might be told to briefly stop taking certain medications, including anti-inflammatories. You should also arrange for transport to and from the surgery, and someone should stay with you the first night after you’re home to help you get comfortable and monitor early stages of recovery.

Local or intravenous anesthesia will be given to make sure you’re comfortable. If your upper eyelids are being targeted, an incision will be made on the eyelid fold and muscle, extra skin, and, in some cases, fat will be removed. If the lower eyelid is being targeted, an incision will either be made along the lashes or inside the eyelid. Skin, fat, or muscle will be taken out or repositioned to create the desired effect. After the cuts are closed up, the surgery will be complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is the Difference Between an Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty ?

An upper blepharoplasty focuses on removing excess skin and tissue from the upper eyelids to reduce sagging and create a more refreshed appearance. This procedure can also improve peripheral vision when drooping skin interferes with sight. rnA lower eyelid lift targets puffiness, under-eye bags, and loose skin beneath the eyes by repositioning or removing fat and tightening the surrounding tissue. Some patients choose to combine both procedures for more comprehensive rejuvenation around the eyes.

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Blepharoplasty Surgery?

Most patients can return to light daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks after blepharoplasty surgery. Swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort are common during the first several days and gradually improve with proper aftercare. Recovery timelines can vary depending on the extent of the procedure and individual healing factors.

Will an Blepharoplasty Help Reduce Under-Eye Bags and Puffiness?

Yes, a lower eyelid lift is specifically designed to address under-eye bags and puffiness caused by excess fat, loose skin, or weakened tissue beneath the eyes. During the procedure, fat may be removed or repositioned to create a smoother, more youthful contour.

Are the Results of Blepharoplasty Permanent?

The results of blepharoplasty are long-lasting, but the natural aging process will continue. Many patients enjoy their results for years, especially when maintaining a healthy lifestyle and good skincare habits.

Will There Be Visible Scarring After an Eyelid Lift ?

Blepharoplasty incisions are carefully placed in natural creases or along discreet areas of the eyelids to minimize visible scarring. As healing progresses, scars generally fade significantly and become difficult to notice. Following post-operative care instructions can help support optimal healing and scar appearance.

Can an Blepharoplasty Improve Vision Obstructed by Sagging Skin?

Yes, an upper eyelid lift may improve peripheral vision for patients whose sagging eyelid skin interferes with their line of sight. By removing excess tissue, the procedure can open the eye area, improve visual function, and enhance facial appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty Surgery?

Good candidates for blepharoplasty surgery are generally healthy adults who are bothered by drooping eyelids, puffiness, under-eye bags, or excess skin around the eyes. Candidates should have realistic expectations about the procedure and be committed to following recovery instructions. A consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon can help determine if blepharoplasty is the right option for your goals and anatomy.
