IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation

Plastic Surgery Experts

As technology continues to develop in incredible ways, the options for patients looking to improve their skin are expanding rapidly. Photorejuvenation is a process that makes use of concentrated light to introduce incredible results without the need for surgery.

What Is IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation?

Also known as “Photofacials,” IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation are non-invasive remedies that turn back the hands of time. They both use pulses of light to treat a variety of skin conditions like age spots, acne, sun damage, rosacea (Small, red, pus-filled bumps), and hyperpigmentation (Darkened skin). They’re each unique in the ways they work:

  • IPL = Intense Pulsed Light
  • BBL = Broad Band Light

IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation works by delivering pulses of light into your skin. First, the pigments in your skin absorb this light, and the light energy is converted into heat energy. Then, that heat energy attacks the pigments. The pigments break down and are naturally absorbed by your body’s immune system. The best part? Photorejuvenation goes one step further and does something else incredible.

Unfortunately, collagen production naturally declines with age, leading to the formation of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. In addition to targeting pigment, these treatments also stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen is a protein that gives skin its strength, elasticity, and youthful appearance. The heat generated by the light pulses stimulates the cells that produce this wonderful protein, leading to an improvement in your skin’s texture, firmness, and overall appearance. IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation is a safe and effective treatment for improving the appearance of your skin. However, it’s still important to have the treatment performed by a trained and experienced provider to minimize the risk of complications.

Who Is a Candidate for IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation?

Because photorejuvenation is non-invasive, many people are candidates for this treatment. Pregnant and nursing patients may not be good candidates for photorejuvenation. In general, people who do not smoke will have better results/an easier healing process than those who do smoke. Ideal candidates are in good health and are willing to maintain a skincare routine that promotes healthy skin and the continuation of results from this procedure. Ideal candidates are collaborative in spirit and have realistic expectations. We’ll go over your medical history and your goals with you during a consultation to make sure photorejuvenation is the right fit for you.

What to Expect During a IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation Treatment

During a photorejuvenation treatment, we will use cool air to make sure that you’re as comfortable as possible when light is being directed to treat the skin. To achieve optimal results, you might need to undergo multiple sessions. Each session usually lasts for about an hour. Significant discomfort is not expected. Before the procedure starts, you might need to stop using retinoids and harsh exfoliants for a period of time, and you should also avoid medications that keep the blood from clotting properly.

You’ll be given protective eyewear before the procedure starts to protect your eyes from the light. A handpiece will be used so a member of our team can direct pulses of light to treat the area.

IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation Aftercare

You can usually resume normal activity after this treatment is completed. Our team will give you detailed instructions on how to make sure recovery goes smoothly. Try to avoid sun exposure during your recovery and wear a good sunscreen to make sure your skin is protected and your results can shine through.
