Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation

in Philadelphia, PA

Thanks to modern technology and incredible developments in the aesthetic medicine field, there are several procedures that can be performed to alter the appearance of the breasts. Many patients desire a fuller, more voluminous breast appearance. If this is the case for you, breast augmentation may be a good option.

What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammaplasty or a “boob job,” is a procedure that increases the volume or size of the breasts, creating a fuller appearance. This procedure utilizes transfer of fat or implants to achieve the desired look. It can also be used to restore lost volume of the breast or to address other cosmetic concerns, such as asymmetry of the breasts. At Modern Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, breast augmentation is a regularly performed procedure. It’s a popular option that can give patients a renewed sense of confidence and well-being.

Who Is a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

As with any procedure, not everyone is an ideal candidate. Breast augmentation has high satisfaction rates for patients; however, during your consultation, our team will discuss your goals with you to make sure that this procedure is the best fit. Ideal candidates should not be pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of the procedure. They should be in generally good health. Typically, candidates for this procedure are experiencing dissatisfaction or discomfort due to the appearance of their breasts, whether it be size, loss of volume, or asymmetry.

What to Expect During a Breast Augmentation Procedure

You’ll be asked to talk about medication usage during your consultation, and our team may recommend that you temporarily stop taking certain medications to avoid complications during surgery. Risks will be talked about at length during your consultation. You should make plans beforehand for someone to transport you to and from the procedure and to stay with you for the first several hours after you get home.

You will be given either general or local anesthesia to make sure you don’t experience any discomfort during the procedure. This will be decided in collaboration with a member of our team beforehand. To lessen scarring, incisions will usually be made in more discrete areas, including near the areola, the armpit, or the fold below the breast. The amount and size of the incisions will vary depending on anatomy and how much enlargement you want. After the incision is made, the implant will be placed either over the pectoral muscle or under the muscle. Tissue and skin will be sutured. This procedure is usually completed in under two hours.

After the procedure, you’ll need to wear bandages or gauze, as well as a compression garment. This helps ensure that your recovery is as smooth as possible. You might be asked to stay at the facility for a couple of hours so you can be monitored. You might be prescribed antibiotics and pain medication to lower risk of infection and minimize any discomfort. Try to rest as much as possible for the first several days. Pain usually gets better within the first several days, but swelling may last for a few weeks. Patients can usually resume normal activity after a few weeks. Our team will go over specific care instructions with you so you can heal smoothly at home.
